Worked example: four 25/5 cycles in two hours
Four blocks of 25 minutes give you 100 minutes of focused work. Three breaks between sessions contribute 15 minutes; a final five-minute break or planning period brings the schedule to 120 minutes. If you skip the final break, it takes 115 minutes. Use the remaining five minutes for your next-task notes if you have a two-hour calendar slot.
| Elapsed | Activity |
|---|---|
| 00:00–00:25 | Focus 1 |
| 00:25–00:30 | Short break |
| 00:30–00:55 | Focus 2 |
| 00:55–01:00 | Short break |
| 01:00–01:25 | Focus 3 |
| 01:25–01:30 | Short break |
| 01:30–01:55 | Focus 4 |
| 01:55–02:00 | Final short break / plan next block |
How the calculation treats long breaks
After every fourth focus session, the calculator inserts the longer break only if another focus session follows. A long break is not automatically added when you finish the whole plan. If you check the final-break option, the plan ends with an ordinary short break. This prevents accidentally counting an extra 20-minute break after the day is over.
Choose durations based on the work
Twenty-five minutes is a convenient starting point, not a proven best duration for everyone. For a difficult writing or coding task, try longer blocks and compare how often you need to recover your train of thought. For short vocabulary practice, smaller blocks may fit better. The calculator reports time, not predicted learning or productivity gains.

Frequently asked questions
Does a 25/5 Pomodoro cycle last 30 minutes?
Yes, when you count the five-minute break after it. If the final break is omitted, four 25/5 sessions take 115 rather than 120 minutes.
Do I need an account to use the calculator?
No. The calculator and Pomoria’s core focus timer can be used without an account.
What if the timer rings mid-sentence?
Finish the smallest natural stopping point, jot down your next action and take the break. You can adjust the next focus length rather than treating the alarm as an absolute rule.
